If your Student Visa has already been granted and you’re considering a change in enrolment, it’s essential to plan your study pathway carefully to avoid breaching Student Visa conditions. Each qualification is associated with an AQF (Australian Qualifications Framework) level, and you must maintain the same AQF level or move to a higher one when changing your enrolment.
Should you plan to switch to a course with a lower AQF level, you will need to apply for a new Student Visa.
Example:
If you are currently enrolled in a Diploma of Mental Health (AQF Level 5) and wish to withdraw to study a Certificate III in Individual Support (AQF Level 3), you would be downgrading your principal course and thus required to apply for a new Student Visa.
For more information on the steps to take if your study situation changes, please refer to the Department of Home Affairs guidelines.
