FAQs – Teachout Superseded Qualifications

The following FAQs relate to ALGs decision to teach-out current students in the following superseded qualifications and cease all new commencements and enrolments in these qualifications after Term 1, 2023:

  • SIS50115 Diploma of Sport & Recreation Management (CRICOS Course Code: 090570J)
  • HLT42015 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy (CRICOS Course Code: 089269B)
  • HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage (CRICOS Course Code: 089270J)

What is a superseded qualification?

A superseded qualification is a qualification that has been updated and replaced with a newer version. This happens because industries change over time and require different skills and knowledge from graduates. When significant updates are made to a qualification, a new version is released. The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) oversees Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) like ALG in this process.

If you are currently studying a superseded qualification, it means that it will no longer be offered after the end of the transition period, generally 12-months from when the new version was released. This means that you need to complete your qualification by mid-December 2023. If you have any questions or concerns about your qualification, please don't hesitate to reach out to us for more information.

Will ALG be delivering the new qualifications for the listed three superseded courses above?

Unfortunately, no. ALG has decided not to offer the new qualifications for the three superseded courses listed above as we don't anticipate sufficient demand from future students for these updated courses.

Will I be able to finish my current course at ALG?

Yes, all students who have started a course at ALG will be able to finish their current course and receive their qualification, unless they fail a subject or need to suspend their studies. ALG is committed to supporting students in completing their courses.

If you fail a subject, you will not be able to complete the qualification and will only be eligible to obtain a Statement of Attainment for units of competency successfully completed. Please refer to our FAQ on failing a subject for more information.

If you need to suspend your studies, please refer to our FAQ on suspending studies for more information.

We encourage all students to stay on track with their studies and to seek timely support if needed. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

What happens if I fail a subject?

If you fail a subject in the course you are currently studying, you will not be able to complete the qualification, and will only be eligible to obtain a Statement of Attainment for the units of competency you have successfully completed. This means that you will not receive a full qualification.

To help you pass your subjects, ALG offers assessment resubmission opportunities at the end of each term. If you are struggling with a subject, please reach out to your trainers or the Student Experience team for assistance.

It is also important to note that subjects that are necessary for completing your qualification will only be offered once prior to the end of the 12-month teach out period.

Can I suspend my enrolment?

Yes, you can suspend your enrolment at ALG if you need to take a break from your studies due to compelling or compassionate circumstances, or for any other reason. However, please note that due to the closure of the Perth campus, if you suspend your enrolment, you will not be able to complete your current course at ALG.

If you suspend your enrolment, you will only receive a Statement of Attainment for the units of competency you have successfully completed. This means that you will not receive a full qualification.

If you are considering suspending your enrolment, we encourage you to reach out to your Student Experience team for assistance. They can help you explore your options and provide guidance on the process. For further details of suspended enrolments, you can refer to the Deferral, Suspension and Cancellation Policy and Procedure, which is available on the ALG website ALG website.

If I cannot complete my current course due to failing a subject or suspended enrolment, will I get a refund?

If you are unable to complete your current course at ALG due to failing a subject or suspended enrolment, you will only be eligible for a refund of any pre-paid fees for subjects that have not yet started. Refunds of other fees including subjects already studied will not be provided.

For more information on the refund policy, please refer to the Enrolment Information, Certificates, Fees, and Refunds Policy and Procedure available on the ALG website. If you have any questions or concerns regarding refunds, please don't hesitate to reach out to the Student Experience team for assistance.

If I need further advice regarding my future studies, who should I speak to?

If you would like further information about study options, you can speak with your education agent.

How can I be sure that my choice of options does not put my student visa at risk?

To ensure that your student visa is not at risk, we strongly recommend you contact the Department of Home Affairs or your education agent before informing ALG of your chosen option. This is because your choice may have implications for your visa status. ALG is committed to supporting our international students in their studies, and we encourage you to seek advice to ensure that your studies proceed without any visa issues.

Do I need to inform ALG of which option I have chosen?

Yes.  You must confirm your intentions by sending an email to admissions@alg.edu.au by no later than 5PM Wednesday 15th March. Please send your response to admissions@alg.edu.au.  Details of what to include in your response are noted in your notification letter.

What happens if I don’t inform ALG of which option I have chosen?

Within 14 days, ALG is required under the requirements of the student visa program to either finalise each students' enrolment into an alternative course or to provide a refund of any unspent tuition fees. Please ensure you lets us know within 7 days if you wish to enrol in an alternative course with ALG, to allow time for ALG to issue a Letter of Offer, to accept that Letter of Offer and for ALG to issue a new CoE. If you do not respond, or if you advise you do not wish to enrol in an alternative course with ALG, we will provide you with a refund of any unspent tuition fees within 14 days. We will then update your CoE with the outcome (i.e. finalisation of enrolment into alternative course or refund of fees) as required.
